This poor blog has been neglected for so so long and it’s time for an update.
I have been so very busy with my new business Fnkybee Photography. Everything has really taken off and I am having the time of my life! We are doing all kinds of photography from musicians to engagements to my favorite Boudoir! You can check out our website! FnkybeePhotography.com and keep up on our blog too!
When I started this adventure Boudoir Photography never even entered my mind. After a shoot in December that turned in a boudoir like shoot I fell in love. There is something about capturing a woman’s true beauty when she lets her guard down in the camera that makes Boudoir truly amazing. Almost every client that I have done a Boudoir Shoot for was full of nerves and just couldn’t even imagine that the images would come out good. The truly beautiful part of boudoir is when a client sees their final images and say “Oh My! I had no idea I could be that sexy and beautiful!” That right there makes it worth it. I love to hear that type of feedback and it makes me feel special that I can show them how gorgeous they are in a light that is so different from everyday. Boudoir Photography is a great self esteem boost, it allows a woman to see themselves in a way that celebrates their true beauty. It lets them see that even though they are a mom, a wife, a soccer coach or what have you that they still are sexy and admirable.
After much thought and bringing my sister on board with me full time we have decided to start up a sister company to Fnkybee Photography strictly for Boudoir. We are working hard getting everything ready for the big announcement which will hopefully happen in a week or two! Stay tuned for updates! I will be updating this site with the information along with my Fnkybee Photography blog. You can find links in the sidebar! —->

After last weeks photo shoot I had a friend ask me to do a pin up girl shoot for her and about 10 girls for their bar. It’s an anniversary gift for the bar’s owner and they all will be pin up girls. How Fun! This lit a fire in me, it made me think “I can do this”. I just have to put myself out there, I have to cross over the intimidating hump and find confidence in myself and just do it. So I am.
I would like to introduce
A photograph captures your unique story in time, even though it comes with no words, the story will forever be told with an image.
For now my focus is on finding people to shoot for cheap to get my experience, build a portfolio and to get my name out there. I am very excited to start this because this is me. When I started SpokenStill I was kidding myself. My love is not taking pictures of trees and landscapes it is shooting people, capturing their story. I want to help my client tell their story through still images. I want to give people something a little different, not just the traditional portrait with the white background. I want the photos to have an edge, I want them to pop, I want people to be amazed by them.
What I offer is modern, edgy and urban photo shoots on location or in a studio. I will photograph singles, groups, bands, kids, you name it and I will shoot it. If you are looking for studio shots they will be held at Lucid Linds Studio in the heart of downtown Nashville where a plethora of options are available inside and out. Urban, traditional, inside, and outside the possibilities the studio offers are endless. There are numerous textures and colors at my disposal. The studio also comes with the use of a dressing room, full kitchen and bathroom, internet access and a full sound system. If you would like more information on the studio or are a photographer yourself looking for a great studio for your shoots please visit LucidLindsStudio.com for more information.
If you are interested in a special price photo shoot please contact me by leaving a comment here or on my website fnkybeephotography.com or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Left off Tuesday at Wednesday late afternoon…..
We played blackjack till 6:30 and then scrambled up to our room to get ready. We were outside waiting for them by 6:50, we are fucking champs!
They roll up. It’s time to meet my girl Thy! I’m so excited!!!!! Blogging/twitter buddies coming alive in real life!! STOKED! And no they aren’t serial killers because I’m here today! Double Score. 😉 That was a joke of course. But they didn’t try to murder us, butt rape us or take us to a dark alley so they are cool. heehee.
We hop in the car and immediately start chatting it up like old friends. Mr. T takes off driving like a mad cab driver taking us through parking garages and back streets (this is where I thought maybe we would end up in a dark alley 😉 ) and we end up at Ceasar’s Palace somehow. I’m not questioning it, I’m just happy to be alive. hahahaha!
We are going to see Absinthe. We grab a beer and get in line, talking it up, sharing pictures and stories. I LOVE these people! It’s time to head inside.
Sorry the pic is so dark, it’s all Mr. T’s fault!
The show starts and 2 minutes in it’s already better than the Criss Angel show. It’s like an old traveling circus show. The humor is rude and crude and PERFECT! The acts start and they were amazing! A guy stacking chairs up to the top of the tent and climbed them, girls topless besides their pasties, 4 guys climbing each other, 2 guys balancing each other, a guy and girl on roller skates spinning each other like crazy and a tight rope act. ALL this with no net or safety harnesses and we were 10 feet from the stage! My face hurt from laughing so hard and my heart almost stopped beating a couple of times! The show was hands down the BEST!! What makes it even better than the BEST is seeing it with Thy and Mr. T!!
After the show we headed down to Fremont Street. It is like stepping back in time, the feel of the old casinos (which scared me just a bit), the lights, and the people. There was a band playing out on the street so we stopped for a beer and a listen.
You can zipline down Fremont Street, the guys were all about it and Thy jumped on board with the thinking she was going to die. haha! 4 can zipline at the same time so Thy got cocky and was all about winning. Us girls didn’t have a chance against the guys. Why? Because we are tiny little things so the guys have weight on their side. Turds. B was the first off, you could here him hooting and hollering the whole way down. Mr. T was close behind him while Thy and I came in 3rd and 4th. It was awesome! It was their first time ziplining on Fremont so it was really cool to get to do that with them.
Soon after we ziplined I turned into a poophead. All of a sudden didn’t feel so hot. It could have been the fact that I drank in the afternoon, only ate one meal that day, and the heat. I was feeling rough and lost my gusto. I felt awful because well I felt awful and was putting a damper on the evening. 😦 Next trip out I will make it up to Thy and Mr. T, I promise! I talked up so much we are going to party hardy and here I was feeling like poo and ready to hit the room. We walked around for a bit more and then headed back to hotel.
Even though the end of the night ended with me feeling rough we had a fabulous time all night with Thy and Mr. T. They are hands down 2 of the coolest, nicest, wonderful, most genuine people out there. I am ecstatic that we got to meet them and I am pretty sure it’s safe to say that this friendship will go on for a very very long time. It was so cool to get to know them outside of the blogosphere and twitter.
Our trip even ended with them! They offered to give us a ride to the airport the next day. They picked us up and guess who was with them? 13!!!!!!! I got to me the one and only 13! She is such a beautiful, polite and sweet thing. I almost put her in my suitcase to bring her home with me but Mr. T was watching in the rear view mirror. Damn it! The ride to the airport there was talk about them making a trip to Nashville! WOO-HOO! I am holding you guys to it!!!! 😉 There were many hugs goodbye and I was sad to leave. I could have spent a whole day with them and would be happy just hanging out talking. We will do that next time!
So to you Thy and Mr. T,
Thank you so much for taking time out to spend with us. We had a blast and can’t wait to do it again. You guys rock! Thank you for the ride to the airport and I can’t wait to see you guys again!!! I am holding you to your Nashville visit. Next time I promise NOT to drink in the afternoon and I will eat all my meals that day so I don’t turn into a poophead and ruin the fun! So until the next real life meet up I will see you in Twitterville and the blogosphere!
Love you guys!!!
ps. Mr. T – Remember tonguing is spelled T-O-N-G-U-I-N-G. heehee
Best trip to Vegas EVER!!!
So today and tomorrow we are going to melt. Melt from the heat. It’s 8:30am and already it feels like it’s 93 degrees outside and the humidity is at 80%. Peachy. The heat index for the day is supposed to be anywhere from 105 to 110. Double Peachy. Tomorrow is going to be even hotter. Heat advisories are in place for our area. Good ole summer in Nashville. Last summer was ridiculous when it came to the heat and it seems this July is trying to keep last summer’s holy crap it’s f’n hot trend alive and kicking.
Needless to say the only way to survive outside is if you are near water and that is exactly what we (the kids and I) will be doing today. Its all about my sanity here. I am afraid that 2 days locked in this house with them would cause me to go insane. That’s not pretty.
So if you are looking for me today you can find me here…..
Yes this is my haven…my sanity….my love. I will be on a raft all day trying to stay cool and hoping the kids get nice and worn out.
On a side note we are leaving in exactly 14 days…2 weeks…336 hours for Vegas. Oh yes…The countdown is ON. I need one of those countdown thingys. Even though it most likely will be 867 degrees in Vegas at least it will be minus all this humidity so I will welcome that dry heat with open arms. At least we will hopefully be able to breathe.
With that said, I am off to the pool with kids in tow and will be day dreaming of becoming a millionaire in Vegas.
I don’t know where to start and this is going to be all over the place. So here’s the deal.
-For the last couple of days W has been saying his throat was hurting. He wouldn’t complain all the time, he would mention it here or there and he was acting just fine so I didn’t really pay any mind to it. (that’s excellent parenting I know) Yesterday he said it again a couple of times and then came up with his own diagnosis for it. His thought is it hurts because the little punching bag, as he calls it, in the back of his throat was stuck to one side. I looked and it was where it was supposed to be. After my shoot down of his diagnosis he went to B and had him look. B got out the flash light and looked. Next thing I hear is “Mom needs to take a look at this.” I look and think Ah Shit! W has white crap all over his tonsils. This usually means one thing…Strep. Peachy. If this is so, this means he has been walking around with Strep for 4 days now. We are off to the doctor here shortly so see if I’m right. I am currently taking bets on what the outcome is.
-Now where did the strep come from? I bet it came from Indiana.
-B and W took off to Indiana on Wednesday to stay at his parents house for the night. I get a phone call Wednesday night from B saying he has already had his fill, he had been there only a few hours. My thoughts exactly and this is why I declined the invitation to go. The next day he gets home and starts filling me in on the going ons up there. Always drama which is not drama to anyone else but us because it’s such the norm up there. Reason #598 why I’m glad we don’t live up there any longer. He goes on to tell me about how everyone talks not only around the kids but to the kids. The profanity used towards the kids is just disgusting. This comes from all..the grandparents, the parents, the aunts and uncles. Reason #3 I’m glad we don’t live up there. If we lived up there I can guarantee my kids wouldn’t be around this very often, then I would be labeled the shitty snob that won’t bring her kids around her family. Reason #587 why I’m glad we don’t live up there.
-My coffee tastes amazing this am.
-I think they should change the spelling of Wednesday to Wendsday just because after 30 years of spelling it 95% of the time I spell it wrong the first go around. My fingers want to spell it the way it sounds.
-Saturday night I went downtown with my stepmom, her friend that was in from Indiana and my sister. First let me just say that my stepmom is amazing and looks amazing. She got all dolled up in a cute little summer dress with her tan and if you were to guess her age she looked 40 not 53. She’s one hot mama! We had a ball showing her friend downtown. We did the rounds of the honky tonks and of course started with Tooties and did the loop. I think it’s safe to say that her friend had a good time seeing that she was passed out in my back seat on the way home. ha!
-I think I had a twin walking around Nashville Friday night. I had 3 people stop me Saturday night and say that they saw me Friday night. One dude even told me he saw me at the Embassy Suites. Umm…No, not unless you were peering through my window Friday night and watched me sit on the couch. Weird.
-It’s never a full night out without an argument. My sister and I are standing in the front part of Paradise Park when two toolbags walk up and first one asks if I was at the Embassy Suites the night before. We get through the whole ‘That was not me, I wasn’t there” thing and the next thing I know is my sister is arguing with one of the tools. Not real sure what the hell started it but I hear my sister calling this dude a douche to his face and telling him to go on. Then the other one wants to get involved and she is calling him a toolbag and telling him to walk away. He did the other did not, he wanted a fight. So he is telling her that she will never find anybody that can stand her, she will be single forever blah blah blah. She’s telling him to fuck off and that he is a complete douche and toolbag and needs to go back to where ever he came from because Nashville has enough idiots already to go around. I’m standing there with my beer in awwe because it was pretty funny and I love to hear my sister tell someone how it is. Then the dude started to get completely out of line with her and I put myself in between them and finally calmed it down and got him to walk away. Total buzz kill.
-I’ve had my fill of downtown for the rest of the summer. I will stay in my little town and frequent the hole in the wall instead and drink beer for $2.50 versus the $4 you pay downtown. Plus I would much rather be out with B surrounded by rednecks and bikers than be downtown with a bunch of Trendy McTrendersons and dumbasses anymore. If that is a sign of age, I’m completely fine with it.
1yr ago today Music City was devastated by floods. Today we stand tall, unbroken & rebuilt.
We Are Music City, We Are Nashville.
I can remember it like it was just yesterday, we had friends coming in from out of town. Our friend Chuck and his son was coming down from Illinois to stay the night on their way back home to Georgia, his wife was driving up from Georgia and meeting them here at our house. The rain started and it didn’t stop. Chuck and his son made it early in the afternoon. When they were on Interstate 24 just minutes from our house and the water started to rise. The water was at the edge of the interstate and if they would have been on the interstate for 10 minutes longer there is a good chance they would have been 2 victims of the rising water. This picture is Interstate 24 about 15 minutes from my house where Chuck and his son had just came through not even an hour before.
Meanwhile, his wife was coming up from Georgia. She pulled over in a town just before our because 1. there was a tornado heading right for where she was driving and 2. she couldn’t take driving in the non stop white knuckle pouring down rain any longer. B, Chuck and his son headed out to pick her up. As soon as they left the house a tornado warning came for us. I put the kids in the closet and hunkered down for about 10 minutes. After we had the clear back came B and Chuck. They couldn’t get out of the neighborhood. Every entrance was flooded. Chuck was on a mission to get to his wife. B stayed here with me and the kids because of the weather and Chuck headed back out. He made his way through the waters and made it to his wife. I was relieved when they made it back.
The rest of the afternoon we sat in front of the tv and watched in awwe. We couldn’t believe our eyes. It just kept rising..and rising..and rising. The pictures that were coming in were unbelievable. There was moments of complete silence in our living room with the occasional gasp. This was happening.
B’s phone started to ring and it didn’t stop (he runs Sunbelt Rentals Pump and Power, Nashville Division). B went into work mode over drive. I didn’t see him for a week, his guy’s families didn’t see their husbands and fathers for weeks. They worked day in and day out, delivering pumps, pumping water out of buildings downtown, and anything and everything they could do they did. The hard work, sweat and probably some sleep deprived tears were appreciated everywhere by everyone.
Nashville was over shadowed during this time by the Gulf Oil Spill. That was Ok. We didn’t need it. This city came together like no one had seen before. We didn’t need the coverage, we didn’t need the help because the people of Nashville jumped into action. People came together, immediately went out to help rescue their neighbors, even if those neighbors were towns away. That day I fell in love with my city all over again and on a whole new level. I was proud to call myself a Nashvillian.
Take a few minutes and watch this incredible video. The song is “When one of us Stands” written for the floods.
There was a great article that was written by Patton Fuqua titled We Are Nashville. Here are a few quotes from the article.
“The national news coverage gave us 15 minutes, but went back to focusing on a failed car bomb and an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico”
“The Cumberland River crested at its highest level in over 80 years. Nashville had its highest rainfall totals since records began. People drowned. Billions of dollars in damage occurred. It is the single largest disaster to hit Middle Tennessee since the Civil War. And yet…no one knows about it.”
“But let’s look at the other side of the coin for a moment. A large part of the reason that we are being ignored is because of who we are. Think about that for just a second. Did you hear about looting? Did you hear about crime sprees? No…you didn’t. You heard about people pulling their neighbors off of rooftops. You saw a group of people trying to move two horses to higher ground. No…we didn’t loot. Our biggest warning was, “Don’t play in the floodwater.” When you think about it…that speaks a lot for our city. A large portion of why we were being ignored was that we weren’t doing anything to draw attention to ourselves. We were handling it on our own.”
Benefits, concerts and telethons quickly followed raising money to help the ones effected, the ones that lost everything in the flood. I am very proud to say that I was able to be a part of one benefit. My sister, myself and a few others came together and put together a benefit concert at 3rd and Lindsley, one of Nashville’s oldest music venues where my sister was working at the time. We had music all night long, a silent auction, sold t-shirts that we had made and took donations with all the money going to The Community Foundation. I am so proud to say that all of our hard work raised almost $3000. It felt so good to do something that would help others.
The people of this city and all surrounding areas came together in the most beautiful way. The floods didn’t discriminate in it’s attack. Everyone from the common Joe to celebrities were effected by the waters and all came together to help one another.
After a year people are still rebuilding, still feeling the effects of the waters. On this day 1 year later we are being hammered by rains again with our western counties in Middle Tennessee on the verge of being flooded again, some already are. It makes the memories of what happened a year ago that much more vivid and some unfortunately are reliving it once more. My heart goes out to them and everyone in this wonderful beautiful city which we call home.
I heart you Nashville.
We are Nashville, We Are Music City.
Yesterday my sister and I took off downtown Nashville for a little fun with my camera. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast. Here are a few from our outing.
If you are interested in any of the prints to purchase you can find these plus more not shown here on Monday in my Etsy Store SpokenStill PhotoArt!
The last week has been busy, fun, creepy and painful. In a nutshell…
-I have had more fun with my camera in the last week than I have in a long long time. I love coming home after being out and finding great shots have been taken. There might not be tons but if a few come out that is success in my eyes. I also love getting constructive criticism on my photos. I post them on Flikr and have received wonderful feedback that includes advice that I will take with me next time.
-While being out last week shooting my sister we were reminded of the creeps that walk among us. We were at a public recreation area that is half boat ramp half picnic area at the lake when we were sitting in my Pilot planning our next move when a truck pulls up next to us, rolls down his passenger side window (that was facing me) threw it up in park and while looking at us started clearly masturbating. We were completely creeped out. The part that gets me is that this is the same place where I had my kids the day before. The day I took my kids I noticed as we were leaving the amount of cars that were sitting there with men in them, I just thought they were there for their lunch break seeing it was around that time. Now we know why they are there. When my sister and I got back to the house I called the police to make them aware of what we saw. The dispatcher said that this is a common occurrence at this park and to call immediately if I am ever there again and see this kind of activity going on. Umm…I don’t think I will be going back there. What is sad is that this is ‘normal’ for this man and my sister and I are left creeped out and scarred from the image that is now sketched in our minds. I am so disturbed to know that this is going on at our parks, where we take our children. Something has got to be done about this.
-I had a wonderful weekend hanging out with an old friend that was in town for a concert. We spent Saturday night downtown at the honky tonks showing them Nashville. We partied like we were 22 again, shutting down the bars and not hitting our bed until 4am. This can not happen anymore because I am old and I feel like an 80 year old the next day. We were recovering from lack of sleep more than recovering from the amount of alcohol. We had a blast though so no regrets.
-I am a little worried about a pain that I woke up with yesterday morning in my pelvic area isolated to one side. I spent yesterday thinking maybe I am just bruised from some recent activity. Last night it hurt throughout the night. It hurt to turn over on my left side, it hurts to cough, it just flat out does not feel good. What stinks is that the doctor can’t get me in until Thursday that means two more nights of not so good sleep if this does not subside. After googling this kind of pain this morning and especially on the side it is on it could be a number of things, a couple which I don’t even want to think about. Great. That’s just peachy.
-I am completely addicted to stumbleupon.com I can spend hours hitting that friendly little stumble button if I am not careful. I have found so many sites that I was not aware of before thanks to that little button. One being befunky.com It is a great photo editing site that is free for the most part. You can pay to get the extra features but the two effects that I love the best are free. If you are looking for a great free site to add some special touches to your photos check it out.
I have so much to cover. This is going to be one hell of a smorgasbord of a post. I could break it up into different posts I guess but…oh what the hell here we go.
First we will start with a letter. I see a new trend going on with my blog, letters to things that will never write me back. They (I don’t even know who the hell ‘they’ are) can’t write me back, ‘they’ don’t even have hands to write with, hell ‘they’ aren’t even real people. So far ‘they’ have been my cold, my eyes, and another cold. This time it will be a Mother Nature. I might be going crazy.
Dear Mother Nature,
We need to talk about your weather trends this winter. I am not happy with your weather, I am not happy with your snow. One of the reasons I love it here in Tennessee is because of the weather. It doesn’t *usually* get crazy cold until January and the snow *usually* doesn’t come until late January or February. This year you decided to start in December with the frigid temperatures and the snow. Not cool nor is it funny. I have had it. I woke up this morning to almost 3 inches of snow on the ground with more coming throughout the day and even more falling and accumulating tomorrow. What the crap is this, a funny joke? Well you suck at being a comedian if that is the case. If you were on a stage I would so throw tomatoes at you. So now with all this snow on the ground and it being Tennessee, schools are out once again and will be for at least half the week. Do you not understand that the kids need to go to school? They need to go so they can learn and most importantly be out of the house in a social setting away from us moms so we can get done what we need to get done. I don’t mind a snow day later in the week, Wednesday is good or even Thursday. But to throw up your white stuff on a Sunday night into Monday with even more on a Tuesday..are you kidding me? Do you not get that we just spent the entire weekend with our kids and we now need a bit of a break? Now don’t get me wrong I am grateful to not here my annoying beeping alarm in the am but I had stuff to get done today and now that is shot. Instead I will be in the house with an 8 year old and a non stop talking 5 year old. I will be less at least one ear come days end. Take right this second for example, I am trying to type a post and I have my 8 yr old standing in front of me with silly puddy saying ‘Mom, look at this’ every 6 seconds when he puts it in a different shape and my 5 yr old doing the same thing while yelling at the dog for trying to eat her silly puddy. You obviously have no children and have no idea what you put us moms through. I would love your cooperation from here on out for the rest of the winter and I would prefer your shenanigans later in the week from now on. Thank you in advance for listening to my requests and complying.
Ok moving on..
I had a great weekend. Friday evening brought the old 3 back together with dinner and drinky poos afterwards. Fan-tabulous! I had a great time catching up and hanging out. Much needed. Saturday needless to say I didn’t exist because I am old and honestly it takes me a day to recover from just a late night anymore.
Yesterday was the benefit for Brandi and it was A-Mazing! I arrived around 3:30, the music started at 4. When I got there the place was already 85% full! Unbelievable!!!!! Throughout the night it just kept filling to the point that there wasn’t an empty seat in the place and you couldn’t walk through. It was amazing to see all the people and feel all the love and support that was in that place. 50-60 people drove up from Louisiana (where Brandi is from) to be there with her for this event. Absolutely amazing. And a band from New Orleans came up to play. I felt like I was right there on Bourbon Street. Brandi got up and used every ounce of energy she had to be on stage with the Wooten Brothers. She is a true trooper. Throughout the evening they had a silent auction with amazing items. The music talent I don’t even have words for…it was amazing. Between the New Orleans band to famous musicians in Nashville I was wowed every time new people took the stage. When I left last night at 7:45 they had already raised $8,000 and this morning I heard they raised $11,000 last night and that does not include money from the silent auction. The Kenny Rogers even donated $1,000 to Brandi plus another grand from another well known country musician. Un-believable! Brandi is much loved throughout our town. I heart Nashville for so many reasons and one main reason is the way this town comes together. It was first proved to me when we had the flood and again last night when the place almost met capacity. Brandi is loved by all and she will strive and win this battle with cancer.
We love you Brandi!
And to you Nashville, I love you, I am proud to call this wonderful city home. To see everyone come together for whatever cause it is and to witness the love this city can show is by far hands down what makes this the most amazing city to live in. The only complaint I have now with you is the weather and hopefully my letter to Mother Nature will heed much needed results in that department.
