Almost 2 weeks ago a good friend of mine put together a Pin Up Girl Shoot and I had the privilege to shoot it. Nat did great putting it all together, she did the makeup, hair and wardrobe. She knew exactly what she wanted and had the day mapped out. We shot for around 7 hours in and around Lucid Linds Studio and had a blast. I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Yesterday I made the decision to take the plunge and finally purchase Photoshop Elements 9. I had downloaded a free trial earlier in the year when I was trying to decide what editing software I wanted to use. As much as I loved it, I found a site on the internet where I could edit for cheap and went that route. Well, you get what you pay for. After awhile the site that I decided to use got old and I found myself back in iphoto editing my photos. Blah.
I spent the day getting to know Miss. Element 9. She is a bit overwhelming at the moment but with time her and I will become great lovers. She can do everything that I want plus some, she’s kinky like that. I can’t wait to fully understand her interface and all of her curves. She is quite beautiful.
One thing that she can do is to make a photo black and white and then pull true colors through. I love love love this feature. It was one of the main reasons I wanted this program. There is just something about emphasizing a specific part/s of a photo that makes it pop, makes it beautiful. I took one photo yesterday to play with and did just that. Here it is.
Along with that awesome feature there are so many filters you can apply to your photos. I played a little with those too.
By no means do I plan on over processing every single photo with filters and effects, but they are fun to play with and they can add a much needed boost to a boring photo.
I am excited and ready to fully understand every aspect of her, ahem I mean the program. Now to study, shoot, play and experiment with my new lover.
I have nothing specific to talk or write about so this is one of my infamous random ramblings posts. I know you are so excited. You’re welcome.
-I have tattoo fever….BIG time. I must hold off a couple of months and get through the heat and sun. At this point there is no way in the world I can stay out of the pool for 2 weeks. I am refreshing my search for the perfect tattoo idea so when the time comes I am ready.
-My sister got a plant for her birthday called a money tree. If that thing starts sprouting Benjamin’s I am so stealing it.
-This new kitten has already cost me $150 and it hasn’t even had it’s first round of shots yet because it had a cold. It better be thankful it’s cute and my that it makes my daughter so darn happy.
-That’s all I got.
I will leave you with a picture I took with my phone yesterday.
1yr ago today Music City was devastated by floods. Today we stand tall, unbroken & rebuilt.
We Are Music City, We Are Nashville.
I can remember it like it was just yesterday, we had friends coming in from out of town. Our friend Chuck and his son was coming down from Illinois to stay the night on their way back home to Georgia, his wife was driving up from Georgia and meeting them here at our house. The rain started and it didn’t stop. Chuck and his son made it early in the afternoon. When they were on Interstate 24 just minutes from our house and the water started to rise. The water was at the edge of the interstate and if they would have been on the interstate for 10 minutes longer there is a good chance they would have been 2 victims of the rising water. This picture is Interstate 24 about 15 minutes from my house where Chuck and his son had just came through not even an hour before.
Meanwhile, his wife was coming up from Georgia. She pulled over in a town just before our because 1. there was a tornado heading right for where she was driving and 2. she couldn’t take driving in the non stop white knuckle pouring down rain any longer. B, Chuck and his son headed out to pick her up. As soon as they left the house a tornado warning came for us. I put the kids in the closet and hunkered down for about 10 minutes. After we had the clear back came B and Chuck. They couldn’t get out of the neighborhood. Every entrance was flooded. Chuck was on a mission to get to his wife. B stayed here with me and the kids because of the weather and Chuck headed back out. He made his way through the waters and made it to his wife. I was relieved when they made it back.
The rest of the afternoon we sat in front of the tv and watched in awwe. We couldn’t believe our eyes. It just kept rising..and rising..and rising. The pictures that were coming in were unbelievable. There was moments of complete silence in our living room with the occasional gasp. This was happening.
B’s phone started to ring and it didn’t stop (he runs Sunbelt Rentals Pump and Power, Nashville Division). B went into work mode over drive. I didn’t see him for a week, his guy’s families didn’t see their husbands and fathers for weeks. They worked day in and day out, delivering pumps, pumping water out of buildings downtown, and anything and everything they could do they did. The hard work, sweat and probably some sleep deprived tears were appreciated everywhere by everyone.
Nashville was over shadowed during this time by the Gulf Oil Spill. That was Ok. We didn’t need it. This city came together like no one had seen before. We didn’t need the coverage, we didn’t need the help because the people of Nashville jumped into action. People came together, immediately went out to help rescue their neighbors, even if those neighbors were towns away. That day I fell in love with my city all over again and on a whole new level. I was proud to call myself a Nashvillian.
Take a few minutes and watch this incredible video. The song is “When one of us Stands” written for the floods.
There was a great article that was written by Patton Fuqua titled We Are Nashville. Here are a few quotes from the article.
“The national news coverage gave us 15 minutes, but went back to focusing on a failed car bomb and an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico”
“The Cumberland River crested at its highest level in over 80 years. Nashville had its highest rainfall totals since records began. People drowned. Billions of dollars in damage occurred. It is the single largest disaster to hit Middle Tennessee since the Civil War. And yet…no one knows about it.”
“But let’s look at the other side of the coin for a moment. A large part of the reason that we are being ignored is because of who we are. Think about that for just a second. Did you hear about looting? Did you hear about crime sprees? No…you didn’t. You heard about people pulling their neighbors off of rooftops. You saw a group of people trying to move two horses to higher ground. No…we didn’t loot. Our biggest warning was, “Don’t play in the floodwater.” When you think about it…that speaks a lot for our city. A large portion of why we were being ignored was that we weren’t doing anything to draw attention to ourselves. We were handling it on our own.”
Benefits, concerts and telethons quickly followed raising money to help the ones effected, the ones that lost everything in the flood. I am very proud to say that I was able to be a part of one benefit. My sister, myself and a few others came together and put together a benefit concert at 3rd and Lindsley, one of Nashville’s oldest music venues where my sister was working at the time. We had music all night long, a silent auction, sold t-shirts that we had made and took donations with all the money going to The Community Foundation. I am so proud to say that all of our hard work raised almost $3000. It felt so good to do something that would help others.
The people of this city and all surrounding areas came together in the most beautiful way. The floods didn’t discriminate in it’s attack. Everyone from the common Joe to celebrities were effected by the waters and all came together to help one another.
After a year people are still rebuilding, still feeling the effects of the waters. On this day 1 year later we are being hammered by rains again with our western counties in Middle Tennessee on the verge of being flooded again, some already are. It makes the memories of what happened a year ago that much more vivid and some unfortunately are reliving it once more. My heart goes out to them and everyone in this wonderful beautiful city which we call home.
I heart you Nashville.
We are Nashville, We Are Music City.
Today is a special day, My sweet, beautiful little girl turns 6 today.
E is one of the most sweet little girls you will ever have in your life. She is my little ray of sunshine. She lights up a room with her smile, she can make you laugh with her complete and utter randomness, she can make you feel better with just a hug. She is a joy to have around all the time.
I want so much to give her the world but yet shield her of it at the same time. I never want to see her get hurt even though I know heartbreaks will come, unpleasant situations will arise, life will be bumpy from time to time. I hope she knows that I will always have her back, I will always be here for her, and forever love her more than the world itself.
The world wouldn’t be as bright as it is today without her in it.
Happy Birthday to you my sweet baby girl, I love you more than you will ever know.
Yesterday my sister and I took off downtown Nashville for a little fun with my camera. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast. Here are a few from our outing.
If you are interested in any of the prints to purchase you can find these plus more not shown here on Monday in my Etsy Store SpokenStill PhotoArt!
So many things to cover and most likely should be broken up into different posts but it’s my blog and I don’t want to do that so…here we go! This is my house..I play by my rules! 😉
Yesterday I came across a post on facebook saying that they have changed the privacy settings once again and currently you only see posts from people that you interact with on a regular basis now. It went on to say how you can change this so you can get all of your friend’s posts. *I apologize because this is going to get shallow* Well by the end of the night I could tell who had changed their setting to see everyone’s posts. I noticed this when someone commented on one of my posts that hadn’t commented in some time now. *Shallow alert* This person used to comment frequently on my stuff before and always I would read it and think to myself “shut up” “I don’t care!”. That’s bad I know but it is what it is. Needless to say I will keep my settings just the way they are. Probably a quarter of my friends on there I don’t care what they have to say or need their input on my life. I thought about this last night and how shallow of me it is to even think it. Here is the funny part. This morning as I am scanning Twitter I cam across a tweet from ZodiacFacts, it was running 3 tweets to for every sign listing characteristics. One for Gemini said this “#ZodiacFacts A #Gemini’s worst trait is shallowness – both intellectually and emotionally.” Well now we know where my shallowness came from with the whole facebook thing. Go me.
Today is going to be a good day..I can feel it. It’s a high of 72 today…Yes 72!! Can I get a “Hell Yeah!” I called my sister yesterday to see if she wanted to come out today and do pictures at the lake. I found a cool place where huge tree trunks are sticking out of the ground and it would be an awesome place to do a rugged sort of photo shoot. She excitedly agreed and said she would call in the am and be out in the morning. Cool I thought, she’ll be out sometime around 11. Well let me just tell you..she texted me at 7am this morning and said she would be out in an hour. WHAT! Getting that text at 7am blew me out of my seat. We are going to get an early start and have some fun. Again..Hell Yeah!
I have some fun stuff coming up over the next few weekends that I am stoked about. This weekend I have friends that will be in town for a concert. The concert is Friday night so we have all night Saturday to hang. I have been requested to be their honky tonk’n tour guide. Get ready Broadway (Broadway the street in Nashville), we are going to tear it up! Next weekend I am going to a concert with my stepmom. Now my sister lives in an old warehouse building downtown and one of her neighbors is a crew guy for Brad Paisley. Brad Paisley is my stepmom’s favorite. Seriously, she loves him, it scares me at times, you get her talking about him and I am pretty sure she forgets she is married and that my dad is sitting right there. Last year my sister got her an autographed picture of Brad Paisley from her neighbor and I thought my stepmom was going to lose it. I’m pretty sure she slept with the picture and I know it was kept right by her bed. Did I mention she loves her some Brad Paisley? Well out of the blue last week my sister’s neighbor brought her 2 tickets for the Brad Paisley concert next weekend. My stepmom practically jumped out of her skin when my sister told her about the tickets. This will be the first time that my stepmom gets to see him in concert and it will be so much fun, I am so excited I get to go with her to witness her craziness for him. She said she would keep her “hooting and hollering” to a minimum. Yeah right..you should of heard her at the Tim McGraw concert, Brad Paisley is going to be 10x that. This is going to be fun!
Yesterday I took the kids over to the lake to play and of course had my camera in hand. I got some cool shots of the kids and of some other random things. I will share a few…
Yesterday I strapped my new lens on my camera and headed over to a couple of boat ramps near my house to see what I could find. What I found was rocks, stumps, roots, mud..lots of mud, birds and dreary colors spite the sun being out. Hey what do you expect in mid-February. 🙂 It was 64 degrees and the sun was out so it was just nice to get out and feel the sun on my face. My new zoom lens was out of control. I love it. Here are a few photos from yesterday. I also got Photoshop Elements yesterday and started playing around with it too. After setting off the smoke alarms in the house from my brain smoking trying to figure out how to use Photoshop Element I finally figured it out and had some fun with a couple of photos.
